Which is the best air purifier to remove the smell of Mold and paint Odor.?

  1. If it is smell you want to remove get something with activated charcoal in it. Ebay has a lot of air cleaners cheap, especially the hepa type because the hepa filter is so expensive to replace and no one wants to buy them. They’re still good actually–if its just odors you want to remove. You can buy a new charcoal impregnated pre-filter (cheap) without replacing the hepa filter.

  2. The Ionic Breeze is the best out there in my opinion. I had the same situation in a rental trailer I moved into and my Ionic had the air cleared in an hour. There are no filters to replace, you simply wipe the grate clean every so often.

There are many models at varying prices. DO NOT go with immitators such as Sharper Image, trust only the Ionic Breeze company!

  3. Odors are in the air you breathe, so it only makes sense that a good air purifier will address this issue. However, you do realize that the source must be addressed for long term odor removal. With that understood, you are looking for an effective air cleaner. The IQ machines are good machines, but they lack ultra-violet lamps to kill viruses and bacteria. They also lack computerized controls to monitor the air while they are cleaning. Thirdly, they are noisy.

An effective solution can be found at http://www.allergy-relief-air-purifier.com. The Sun Pure SP-20C is the most effective solution with the features you are looking for. It is compact and comparatively inexpensive. The testing results are on this site also. Shipping will be from California, so keep that cost in mind. I hope this helps.

Gin, please don’t answer questions you know little about. Sharper Image is the company responsible for the Ionic Breeze. See link: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2008/02/sharper_image.html

  4. Before I tell you about air purifiers - let me explain what you want to be removing here. With mold, it is both mold spores and mold volatile organic compounds in the air that you want to remove, whereas the other sources seem to be largely volatile organic compounds in the air which are causing the odors.

One filtration source alone cannot eliminate all types of airborne contamiants - the ideal solution is a system that combines two or more types. I would recommend the Austin Air cleaner which delivers a complete filtration solution, removing a wide variety of particles, sub-micron particles, chemicals, gases, micro-organisms and odors. This system uses a HEPA filter along with granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) which has the strongest adsorption power of any material known to man. In one pound of carbon there are over 200 miles of tiny pores to trap gases and odors. It’s safe, cost efficient and so effective the military uses it in their gas masks!

Unlike air cleaners that use electrostatic-precipitation or ionic generation, the Austin Air cleaners do not emit any by-products such as toxic ozone - beware of that. Ozone can be extremely harmful to your health. Austin Air cleaners use a 4-stage filter containing only the best proven filter mediums for cleaning the air. In every Austin Air cleaner, you will find Medical Grade HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) and Activated Carbon addressing the most serious household airborne contaminants.

The HealthMate or HealthMate Jr is a great machine, and you would pick the larger or smaller model depending on the size of your home. It is an American product and sells for 299.99 but it has a 5 year warranty and works like a charm. Remember, you get what you pay for and some of the cheaper models only have a one stage filtration system (only removing certain types of contaminants - mostly particles in the air) or emit harmful byproducts such as ozone. I would check out this site if you’re interested in the Austin Air Product.

    Hope this helps.

  5. All are pretty good. The best one I found that worked for me was at a dedicated air purifier store at http://www.trustedair.com, it has all that was needed and I was able to find a 5% off from retailmenot.com

    Use "5OFF" and good luck!
