Look at the "Consumer Reports" magazine review of these. It should be on their website. They had good info on them, and info about how effective they were on removing pollutants, and how many of their own they emmitted.
I sugest that you get one that is an ionizer rather than one with a Hepa filter. I have an ionizer one in my bedroom and love it because it is quiet unlike the Hepa filter ones. You do not have to spend tons of money on them either. I got a great one from a manufacturer in Canada for around $100.
I just got one for my daughters room and it seems to be helping her. This one cost less than 30 dollars. Its a Hepa and has 3 speeds, so it doesn’t have to be noisy.
