So the electrostatic air purifier is cheaper to operate, since you do not have to purchase filters. However, I have an Oreck 2000 air purifier, which is electrostatic. It does seem to remove pollen, but it did not help my mold spore allergies at all. I think one with a HEPA filter would be more effective. We do not have one because a filter can cost as much as $80. Yes they keep the room from getting too dusty. They also take out smoke and pet dander. You replace the filters when they get dirty and can not longer clean your air. We have 2 small Holmes ones and we just got them but they really seem to be helping my allergies. It depends on what type of air filter you get if you want to take germs out of the air.
