i have allergies to dust and mold and bought an air purifier. i’m not sure if i am supposed to close my windows and doors when i use it. i am also not sure if i should always leave the house fan on to circulate air (or how often to use it). does anybody know how to circulate air and use an air purifier? (another question is how long to run the ionizer on the purifier or if i leave it on will the ozone be bad for me).
I just bought a oscillating fan with ionizer and i was wondering what process is the air going through to put ions in the air.
I have noticed that when I put my air purifier on for long periods of use with the ionizer on in the same room where my birds are, my bird starts to act strange. He suddenly has a night fright type reactions and also chirps differently, runs in a circle on the floor like in a panic or something.
He is a 13 year old lovebird and have never seen him react like this before until I got a new air purifier called Sharp plasmacluster ionizer.
My question is, is my bird being affected by this air cleaner somehow?
I recently bought the Vocarb 5000 from AllerAir. Everytime I try using it, the room gets extremely hot and the air smells weird. My eyes also begin to itch. Could mine be malfunctioning? Is there any danger? Or, from experience, can anyone tell me if it is normal for such air purifiers to heat a room up, or perhaps introduce an odd odor or something into the air.
As the air purifier is brand new, there should be nothing in the filters. Is it typical of new products, particularly electronics and things like air purifiers, to emit such odors when new? The fact that my eyes itch when around is what has me pensive, and it isn’t just me. When somebody else was in the room, there eyes itched also.
Is there any possibility, at all, that the air purifier is putting out something toxic into the air? Could it be a health hazard?
Could it by that the filter is merely taking all the moisture out of the air, and that’s what’s drying out my eyes?
No, mine does not have an ionizer.
Just to clarify a prior question, I had; I’ve heard that ionized air can be potentially harmful (i.e. free radicals) so I want to avoid air cleaners that ionize air. The 3M Filtrete electrostatic polyolefin-based filters (very common in furnace filters, and now as part of a standalone air purifier) are pre-charged with a static charge to attract dirt, dust, and particles of inflowing air.
My question is, as non-ionized (regular) air travels through the filter (via a simple fan, there is no ionizer involved) is there any way that it could pick up any of the charge on the electrostatic filter, or that the air can become somewhat ionized in any way or form after it leaves the filter? Now, AFAIK, air doesn’t conduct charges well, so my guess would be no, but I’d like to have an expert opinion.
It’s a relatively new office (completely renovated fall 2006), with a new HVAC equipment/etc. I just find that I feel drowsy, less alert, with perhaps a slight reduction in my ability to concentrate, when the HVAC is blowing (it cycles on and off; maybe on for 5-10 min and then off for 30, etc..). I’m sure it’s not a filter problems, since there’s no perceptible odors and everything is brand new. Also, the sensation varies; usually I’m not as bothered when the ventilation/AC is functioning early in the morning (ie. 10 AM); the circulating air feels more "refreshing" then, as opposed to the afternoon when it feels more "stale" (but this could be somewhat psychological).
Any ideas on what I could do to fix the problem? Any natural/organic air fresheners that could help? I don’t want to use an ionizer ; I once read that air conditioners deplete the air of negative ions, but this seems like a foolish/baseless theory.
I have an air purifer and wondering if the ionizer is bad to have running all the time?
I need the manuel for this item. Here is kenmore’s description of it
"The Kenmore Electrostatic Air Cleaner quickly and effectively reduces airborne allergens and irritants in larger rooms of your home or home office - using a 3 stage cleaning system. Pre-filter collects large particles, the collecting cell charges and attracts smaller particulates, and lastly, an ionizer revitalizes the clean air. The washable filter system saves time and money because it eliminates buying or replacing extra filters. Control panel with LCD puts all the controls at your fingertips."
Where can I find it?

I just bought that, and it says it has an Ionizer in this. I read about Ionizers and it releases bad Ozones into the area that can cause chest pains, Does HEPA filters prevent that from happening? or do I turn the Ionizer off? or just leave it on and turn it off when I am not in the room?

It says it only fits a (13X13) room .. the room I want to use this for is a school classroom that is atleast 20X20. If i put this purifier in a spot i believe the air is at its worse, will it work for a 13X13 area from that point forward or does this product become completely useless when its in a room any larger then (13X13).
Also, i am trying to find an air purifier in the 0-0 for a larger sized room, so if you have other suggestion please list
