Air Purifiers

My cat has just been diagonsed with feline asthma…..:-(?

I have a 8 month old ASH. Since last week, his abdomen pumps up and down rapidly 3 to 4 times a day. Since it usually happens after he eats and he hasn’t been coughing, I thought he has digestion problem. Anyhow, I took him to the vet today and they took an x-ray…and the vet told me he has feline asthma. She showed me the x-ray and pointed out "donuts" and white calcified spot in his lungs. I cried so hard at the clinic.

The vet prescribed Prednisolone suspension 3 mg/ml twice a day (1 ml each time) for a week then decrease to once a day then decrease to once every other day. She also prescribed Cyproheptadine 1 mg/ml twice a day as well. She is also doing a fungal screen.

Can any one who has knowledge about feline asthma or has cats with feline asthma share some of your experience with me? Does the medications prescribed sound right? I checked online and it seems like 3 mg/ml twice a day for a 9 lbs cat is a little too much? Does he need to be on medications for the rest of his life? What else can I do to make to help him? I just bought two HEPA air purifiers and changed his litter from pine to yesterday’s news.

THANKS SO MUCH!!
===============================

Thank you so much JC for sharing your experience with me! He started the medicine last night and I am still watching for any improvement.

My cat has been on Hills Science Diet Nature’s Best Dry Kitten Food and Natural Balance Ultra Premium. I added Royal Canin Kitten 36 to his diet last month and it seems like it triggers the asthma but I am not sure.

I have been trying to switch him to can food (tried Wellness, Hills, Nutro) a few times but he just didn’t want it. Do you have any suggestions and tricks?

what is the difference between getting fired after I was sick, when I have a doctor’s note or doesn’t have?

after i was sick in the middle of the swine flu outbreak, i got fired from work. what if i have a doctor’s note saying that I got the flu symptoms and fever and dizziness and not suitable to go to work (contagious too), versus if I don’t have the note? (can the boss legally fire me if I have the note or if I don’t have the note?)

what if i have dated receipts and credit card statement proving i went to get several HEPA air purifiers at a nearby store during I was sick? Doesn’t that prove I have problem with my health?

Cat that wheezes, any suggestions?

I have a cat who has been wheezing since she was about 4 months old and now she is 3. It may have started when she had a mysterious illness when she was a kitten. The vet never gave me a diagnoses but fluids and antibiotics finally pulled her through. I have recently taken her to two vets, one being a specialist of internal medicine. They have done x-rays which shows what looks like liquid in her lungs and ultrasound which proved it wasn’t heat related. My regular vet said it looked like bronchitis and/or asthma and the specialist said it looked like pneumonia and/or asthma. They gave her Baytril (two weeks) and Prednisone (about a month). They both helped while she was on them a little, but not too much. I do not want to use steroids again though.

I have 3 cats and she is the only one that wheezes. My cats use a corn based litter. They eat mostly Wellness and Instinct dry food but get canned food about every other day. I use all natural cleaners, and all natural fragrance free detergents. I do not use air freshener. I have two HEPA air purifiers in the room she is in. They cover a large enough area that I really only need one for the space she is in, but I have two. I have tried giving her bought raw food, but even when I switch it slowly it gives her bloody stools, which the vet said was from either IBS or Salmonella, and to not give her raw food.

Other then some pretty bad episodes of wheezing she is healthy and at a pretty good weight. It seems to get worse when she is stressed or playing. And she is neg for Aids/Leukemia.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to do or has had a similar experience, I would love to hear your input!

Can mold give you a rash?

My little girl has eczema. We had her tested her for food allergies and she has none. We have found mold in our home and are systematically removing it. We bought some HEPA air purifiers but have been told that they weren’t good quality. Can any body recommend a good air filter.

HEPA Air Purifier OR ionizer for ASTHMA?

Hi guys,

My wife has Asthma. It is not as severe as others, she has 1 puff in the morning & one before bed (one is red, the other is blue). She thinks she is alergic to dust mites?

A big problem is that she snores at night & keeps me awake.

I have read a bit online regarding HEPA Air Purifiers and Ionizers that claim to drasticly aleviate this problem by removing dust etc from the air.

Which would be more suitable for an Asthma sufferer?
HEPA Air Purifier OR ionizer???
