Air Purifiers

I need to remove a smoke smell from an apartment that I just moved into (previous renters were smokers). There is already new carpet and new paint and it has been scrubbed, the last thing to do now is rent an air purifier… anyone know where to rent one?

I live in an apartment in the middle of the city. My room gets dusty really easily and I have to dust everyday. I don’t have any allergies or asthma problems. My question is, is it worth investing in a good air purifier ( e.g.> 0, HEPA filtration etc, or is it good enough to buy a cheaper air purifier(0) with no HEPA filtration, just for the sake of keeping my room dust-free?

just yesterday I let my 2 cats out for a breath of fresh air. Before I could see what happened a local possum who had been roaming the apartment complex was walking along the way when my oldest cat (6yrs) natural hunter jumped up to quickly confront the possum. I saw the whole thing and the only thing that happened was my cat quickly clawed the possum who saw me to quickly proceed to be very nervous and break up the whole thing very quickly. the possum didnt react what so ever but my cat did bat her one good time on the side of the face area. The only thing I could think of was to apply watterless hand sanitizer using toilet parer on her claws very quickly. Does anyone know if this quick encounter should be concern for rabbies scare? I know that possoms supposedly arnet big carriers for rabbies but about a few months earlier there was a huge raccon roaming the premises which was suddenly replaced by this possum a few months later with no sign of the racoon anymore.
the possum was acting normal except for the fact that I was right up on them to distract any prolonged confrontation but the possum showed no fear whatsoever it was almost like me and my cat who was confronting it were not even there is this normal?

Ok so here’ my problem. My neighbour is insane, I really think she belongs in an institution of some sort. I can probably write a book about her but that’s not the point of this post. She smokes like crazy, probably 3 packs a day… I don’t know I’m just guessing but the problem is that I smell it all the time. Sometimes I can see her smoking out her window which you’d think would be a good thing, but I can visually see the cloud of smoke rolling it’s way into my window. So much for getting fresh air in the apartment.

I should also mention that I live in France and the building was probably built 500 years ago, so ventilation is not very good. Insulation is not very good.

I would try talking to her but that’s not really an option since she’s incoherent most of the time. Yes I was serious when I said she should be in an institution. People often think I’m just exaggerating and blowing things out of proportion yet as soon as they come over they agree with me that she’s nuts.

So I’ve been thinking about getting one of those air purifier/filters (with a hepa filter). Although I’m wondering if it would require good insultation to actually do anything, or if it will help at all. The apartment is not very well insulated, and there’s no A/C so I generally want the windows open (French people are scared of air conditioning… sucks for me). Any other suggestions on how to deal with this situation would be great. I am considering moving but until that happens… Thanks.
In response to the "if it’s only the smoke answer", it’s not… like I said I could write a book. But moving is definitely something I’m thinking about.

My apartment is 883 sq feet. I have 5 cats and there are lots of trees around the complex. I am not allergic to dust, tree or flower pollen or anything like that. My problem is all the freaking cat hair that ends up resting on my stuff and also all the general dust. The cat hair issue extends to where when I walk outside, cat hair is floating in the air of my apartment &
ends up on my clothes………I have lint rollers in the car.

I need something that:
* Freshens the air
* Dramatically decreases the cat hair everywhere in my apartment
* Dramatically decreases the dust that ends up on my
electronics, book shelves, etc.

Any suggestions?

The new neighbor just moved in downstairs. He apparently has been smoking in his apartment, which is filtering up to my apartment. I don’t think there is anything in our lease saying we can’t smoke in our apartments, and we don’t want to have to say anything unless it becomes a huge problem. We’re going to go ahead and try the air purifier thing and if it doesn’t help then we might have to go and ask him to stop smoking in his place or at least try to do it out the window…but I understand that may not go over too well. So which brand should I look for when purchasing a purifier?
Ok, we just found on our lease that smoking is not allowed on the premises, so maybe we won’t need that purifier after all…thanks for the input!

I have a neighbor downstairs who smoke constantly in his apartment and the smoke comes right into my apartment..its to a point my eyes burn, i get headaches, and all my clothes smell like cigarette.. i cannot really tell him to stop smoking so i am looking for an air purifier that specifically works for cigarette smoke. can anyone give me an adivce? thanks!

My friend just moved to an apartment and is concerned about off gassing and indoor air pollution; we are in a friendly debate as to what strategy [or combination approaches] is best to address her concerns. Neither of us are engineers or technical. I know there are plants [and I have that list] that help clean and purify indoor air. Also the natural allergens in our geographical area are generally high.

air purifier that covers the whole apartment (610 sqft) block the smells out?

My apartment is very dry. It was suggested to me to purchase a humidifier. I have also been looking at air purifiers. What really is the main differences between them. What would you recommend.
