My mother had an ionic breeze running in the basement all night long on the highest setting. Though the basement is somewhat large, there is no air circulation down there to disperse or diffuse the ozone produced by the "air purifier" as the air conditioning is currently malfunctioning.
I was down there for approximately a half hour when my nose began to burn, and it was at this point that I immediately thought to ascertain whether or not the ionic breeze was on. Seeing that it was, I promptly returned upstairs and the pain in my nose subsided and eventually abated.
I’m asking this because I’m curious if I could, feasibly, have been inhaling unhealthy amounts of ozone - and if so, could my lungs, olfactory lobe in my brain, or any other internal organ have sustained cell damage?
Ok so here’ my problem. My neighbour is insane, I really think she belongs in an institution of some sort. I can probably write a book about her but that’s not the point of this post. She smokes like crazy, probably 3 packs a day… I don’t know I’m just guessing but the problem is that I smell it all the time. Sometimes I can see her smoking out her window which you’d think would be a good thing, but I can visually see the cloud of smoke rolling it’s way into my window. So much for getting fresh air in the apartment.
I should also mention that I live in France and the building was probably built 500 years ago, so ventilation is not very good. Insulation is not very good.
I would try talking to her but that’s not really an option since she’s incoherent most of the time. Yes I was serious when I said she should be in an institution. People often think I’m just exaggerating and blowing things out of proportion yet as soon as they come over they agree with me that she’s nuts.
So I’ve been thinking about getting one of those air purifier/filters (with a hepa filter). Although I’m wondering if it would require good insultation to actually do anything, or if it will help at all. The apartment is not very well insulated, and there’s no A/C so I generally want the windows open (French people are scared of air conditioning… sucks for me). Any other suggestions on how to deal with this situation would be great. I am considering moving but until that happens… Thanks.
In response to the "if it’s only the smoke answer", it’s not… like I said I could write a book. But moving is definitely something I’m thinking about.
I keep my car very clean and change the cabin air filter every few months. All of a sudden, when I turn the air conditioning on the air coming out smells like wet dog, or moldy feet. I took the air filter out thinking it was the problem, but the smell remains. How do I get rid of the smell?
The smell was not present at the beginning of the warm weather. Only started in the past week.
I bought the car used, but have had it for 2 years. It is a 2001 Lexus RX300.
Any more ideas? I may try the febreeze and baking soda first.
I work at home, and I take the home office deduction. I have a separate room that is my regular office space used exclusively as an office, so that is not the question.
I'm just sure if these are particular items I would be able to deduct. I bought a back pillow from the chiropractor for my typing chair, and I need to buy an air filter for this horrible allergy season and an air conditioner for the home offfice. Are these expenses I can deduct since they will only be used in the home office? Do I need to depreciate them?
When depreciating, is there a minimum dollar amount? The back pillow was only 25 bucks. If I don't depreciate it, what category would that be?
Thanks for any information!! I have looked up a lot of info on this but I'm just not sure about these items.
As I said, my home office is my regular place of business. I do everything from here on the computer. That's it.
I think I read somewhere air conditioning is not applicable to Section 179. And I also don't know how the air filter would figure into that or if it's deductible.
