Should I buy air conditioning or an ionizer or both???

  1. Air conditioning only changes the temperature of the room.
It moves the air (generally across water), to cool the room. An ionizer helps change the air with negative ions. An air filter take dust particles (cat dander and hair for example) out of the air.

IF you have asthma, and need CLEANER air, get an air filter.

  4. Their are many specialty filters for air conditioners which assist in the removal of allergens. This is something that may be worth looking into rather than buying both products.

  5. A room air conditioner would be more beneficial. You can replace the filter with 3M Filtrete material (sold by the roll at allergy supply companies) and then change that out every month.

If you live in a cooler climate, though, you’ll need something else for winter if you’re allergic to more than just pollen, perhaps a small HEPA-standard air filtration unit.

Ionizers are pretty much worthless. The EPA has issued warnings about them and Consumer Reports has pretty much thoroughly debunked any claims to usefullness.
