How to clean air filter and get oil out of it?

  1. First question-is this a paper filter or a foam filter? I presume it is a foam filter, but have to ask since you did not specify which type.

    Foam filters need oil in order to trap dirt. Too much is messy but will not harm anything, too little and it won’t get the job done. There are many places on line that sell K&N filter cleaner kits. Just do a websearch. If you go to a autoparts store the kit will run you about $20 but lasts a long time.

    The kit contains a special type of cleaner as well as spray on filter oil. Makes the job a snap. Of course you can do it other ways. Wash a foam filter in dishwashing detergent-the kind used to seperate grease from cooking utensils, wring it out really well and let it air dry. Then soak it in NON DETERGENT straight 30 weight oil. Wring it out really well and reinstall.
