The name "Air Purifier" or "Room Sanitizer" is a little misleading. These systems mainly pull out the heavier dust particles that contain germs or bacteria...which is a good thing, Actual Germs are still floating around on surfaces that your baby comes in contact with, these are enough to aid in building her immune system...using air sanitizing machines are helpful by keeping your baby from breathing larger particles and help in keeping her airway clear avoiding breathing difficulties and some allergies.

I don't think so. They will still be exposed to things from being out side and people coming over. Plus theses purifiers never get rid of everything. I used one with both of my kids and they never seemed any sicker then any normal kid.

Some air purifiers come with air ionizing capability that inactivate viruses and bacteria in the air. But they are never 100% effective. Besides, you only placed the purifier in your room, there are still plenty of viruses and bacteria to go around, assuming they are 'good' for your baby.

So, I say carry on using that air filtering device. ;)
