Air Purifiers

carpet and dust?

  1. Getting the carpet out and installing a hard surface on your flooring will help with the dust problem. No vacuum, no matter how good, can get all of the dust and dirt out of carpet.

Next, get an active style air purifier. Your HEPA filter is a passive style. Passive means it only cleans the air that passes through the machine. An active purifier can clean the air anywhere in your home by using ions and gasses. The ions will cause the particulates in the air to clump together and fall out of your breathing space 40 times faster than gravity alone. The gasses will kill germs, bacteria, viruses and other odor causing organic matter. Active purifiers are the only style that I recommend.

  2. You should pull out the carpet. I think it’s beyond cleaning if you have a high quality vacuum you’re using. Maybe there’s hard wood flooring under the carpet? Hardwood seems to be the best thing for people with dust allergies.

  3. Get an anti allergy 3in 1 wet vacuum. Dyson have to be one of the best dry vacuum brand and the more expensive it is the better it is. They filter the hot air that comes out of your vacuum and gets rid of dust, dust mites and even pollen that other vacuums just blow back out into the air. Have a look at the dyson site. I’m saving for one at the moment.

  4. The odds are pretty good that it is indeed the carpet harboring the dust. You’ll want to get rid of it and instead use area rugs- preferably that can actually be thrown in the gentle cycle of a washer.

    Good luck and feel better!

  5. Carpets harbour a tremendous amount of dust and you need a good vacuum cleaner that removes it all. Not many do. The best course of action would be to remove the carpet and replace with a hard washable floor covering e.g. laminate, solid wood etc. This will not get rid of the dust, but you will be able to see all the dust/hairs/debris and it will build up quickly so you need to keep on top of it. I bought a Dyson recently and it is great and suitable for all floor types. I vacuum each day and mop the hard floors at night and this keeps the floors dust free.
Having a hard floor might make your room much colder, so maybe invest in a good rug, but not one with a thick pile, because this will be another dust magnet and hard to clean.
Also consider washing any soft furnishings in your room frequently e.g. curtains, bedding, cushion covers and vacuum any soft-furnishings that you cannot wash.
